SUMMARY:2020 USSF Spring Open ATL - Cancelled
DESCRIPTION:Description\nThe best run and most enjoyable lifting contest has returned for the spring and Atlanta Barbell is pumped to be hosting. \nThis is a strengthlifing meet. The contested lifts will be the squat\, press (overhead)\, and deadlift\, which differs from a powerlifting meet. While are both strength sports where similar movements are done\, strengthlifting has rules (or a lack thereof) that create quite a different type of competition. For example:\n-There is no bench press. Instead\, you will perform the standing press. \n-Deadlifts must to be done conventionally\, with the feet inside of the hands. \n-There are no weigh-ins only weigh-outs. You do not weigh in prior to the meet\, you will weigh out after your final deadlift attempt\, and this will determine your weight class. \n-Judges are not involved in the lift whatsoever. No one tells you when to squat\, when to press\, or when to do anything during the actual lift. \nTo see other distinctions\,a full set of rules can be found here \nThe meet will be held under the sanction of the US Strengthlifting Federation (USSF). Competitors will be ranked and can qualify for nationals. A USSF membership is required to compete. If you do not have one\, register here: https://internationalbarbellfederation.com/rules/ \nPrevious competitions have been enjoyable and efficient affairs and I am looking forward to this one running just as well. The meet will be capped at 40 lifters. We keep it at 40 so the meet doesn’t take up an entire day. So sign-up quick as we have sold out our past few events . Overall winners of the meet will be calculated via the Wilks formula\, will take home honor\, pride\, and a piece of memorabilia signifying your accomplishment.

For the safety of our competitors and in the name of fairness of competition\, the USSF does not conduct weigh-ins. Weigh outs will be performed immediately following a lifters final attempt on the platform. \nAre there commands? There are no commands. A lifter merely needs to demonstrate proper control and execution of the lifts as detailed in the rules linked above. \nIs there a bench press? Unlike the sport of powerlifting\, the USSF recognizes the press (overhead) in place of the bench press. \nCan I perform the sumo variant of the deadlift? You are allowed to place your legs as wide as you wish\, but in maintaining fairness of competition and assuring that all competitors perform the lift with similar mechanics\, hands must remain outside of the legs while performing a deadlift. \nDo I need a membership to compete? Yes\, all USSF athletes must purchase a membership to be eligible to compete in a sanctioned event. Memberships are valid for one full year and can be purchased here: https://internationalbarbellfederation.com/register/ussf-membership/ \nThis event is organized by Next Level Barbell. \nThe USSF would like to thank our sponsors at Barbell Logic\, Fivex3\, Next level Barbell\, Muteki Knives\, and Dominion Strength Training. \nMatt Reynolds and Scott Hambrick started the Barbell Logic Podcast as a way for them to share a step-by-step education in barbell-based strength training. The Barbell Logic Podcast is now the most reviewed fitness podcast on iTunes and has grown to include a YouTube Channel and website content as well. Their subjects include everything from strength training and the barbell lifestyle to self-refinement and the power of voluntary hardship. Best of all\, everything they produce is absolutely free. SUMMARY:2019 USSF Southern California Spring Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Description\n\n\n\nStrength meets are unique competitions that allow lifters to establish their one-repetition maximum attempts in the squat\, overhead press\, and deadlift. Equipment allowed is limited to belts\, knee sleeves\, wrist wraps\, and shoes. All deadlifts are pulled conventionally. Lifters don’t weigh in. They weigh out after their last deadlift attempt. Rules that govern this meet are available here: \nUnited States Strengthlifting Federation Technical Rules \nThe SoCal Spring Challenge will be held under the sanction of the US Strengthlifting Federation (USSF). Competing in a USSF meet requires an annual membership\, and you can purchase your membership here: \nhttps://internationalbarbellfederation.com/membership/ \nYour meet entry fee includes an exquisitely designed and crafted shirt\, and you – as the stylish wearer of said shirt – will undoubtedly be the envy of all your friends. Don’t miss out (shirt guaranteed only if lifters register by May 26th). In addition\, there will be prizes for the overall winners (calculated via the Wilks formula). \nWe would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsor\, The Strength Co. With two Orange County locations to serve you\, Costa Mesa and Villa Park\, there is no better time than now to book your rack! Check them out at www.thestrength.co. \n \nGetting there: \nIf you are coming from out of town\, the venue is literatlly within walking distance of John Wayne Airport\, and I recommend using that airport (SNA). You may be able to find slightly cheaper tickets into LAX\, but it’s a zoo and the drive sucks. Probably the cheapest option is Long Beach Airport (LGB)\, and is only a 25 minute drive to the venue. \nWhere to Stay: \nCheap 2.5 Stars: \nThere are a lot of Motel 6 type and privately owned motels in the area. These are going to be found on Newport Blvd. and Harbor Blvd. Fine for the bachelor\, not recommended for families. \nMid range 3 – 3.5 Stars: \nThere are a lot of travel hotels across the street from John Wayne Airport. However I believe these all charge for parking\, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. \nThe area at Hotel Terrace Dr. (55 Freeway and Dyer) has a bunch of hotels\, ranging from Embassy Suites to La Quinta\, and everything in between. Most offer free airport shuttles. \nHigh end 4+ Stars: \nThe area of Jamboree and Main have the Marriot\, Westin\, Wyndham\, etc… branded hotels. Very appropriate for families that want to have a comfy place to crash if you will be staying longer. \nWhere to Eat:\n \nIf you would like to contact me and let me know what you are looking for and your budget I can make recommendations. Ethinic is one thing we do really well here. \nGulliver’s Prime Ribs of Beef is across the street from the airport. I have been known to kill 3 or 4 pounds of meat there. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:2019 USSF Spring Open - Atlanta
DESCRIPTION:The best run and most enjoyable lifting contest has returned for the spring and Atlanta Barbell is pumped to be hosting. \nThis is a strengthlifting meet. \n-There are no weigh ins only weigh-outs. If you do not have one\, register here: https://internationalbarbellfederation.com/membership \nPrevious competitions have been enjoyable and efficient affairs and I am looking forward to this one running just as well.
